Love or fear
Last week I listened to an episode of Off Camera, in which Sam Jones interviewed Rashida Jones about her life and career. At one point, asked how she made some career choices, Jones said her father, legendary music producer Quincy Jones, had always taught her to make decisions based on love, not fear.
A day or two later, I saw the trailer to Tick, Tick...Boom!, a movie about the creator of the musical Rent, and all the struggles of his life before he wrote it. In the trailer, someone asks the main character if he makes decisions based on love or fear. His answer—I'm paraphrasing—was, "Fear! A hundred percent fear!" (
An interesting study in contrasts, and maybe a reminder that making decisions in that way is a luxury, one that requires you will be okay no matter what you choose, or what comes of the decision.
